Preston, aka Presto, is our 2-year old little boy who has always been an
easy-going and happy little guy. He loves everyone, and he has yet to
meet someone he couldn’t make smile!
Recently, our deepest fears
were confirmed when Preston was diagnosed with a genetic disorder known
as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. D.M.D. is a devastating disorder that
will continually weaken all of Preston’s muscles, including his heart.
As is common with those suffering from D.M.D, Preston will lose his
ability to walk around the age of 10, be completely dependent on others
by the time he is 18, and have a lifespan of around 25 years.
There
currently is no cure for muscular dystrophy, although progress has been
made in developing gene therapies and medications which may help in
slowing the adverse effects of this disorder. The gene therapies,
however, have only been developed for specific genetic mutations of
D.M.D. At this time, we do not know if Preston’s particular genetic
mutation is a match because we are not able to afford the necessary
genetic testing.
We hope that through this charity run, we will
be able to pay for Preston’s genetic testing and any possible
treatments. We pray that you can help make a difference. To BE A HERO for Presto!
